A Historic Golfing Trophy Finds a New Home at the Lodge of St James
The Lodge of St James No. 765 is delighted to announce the acquisition of the historic Martin Cup, generously donated by United Service Lodge No. 1361.
The silver trophy was presented in 1920 by WBro Dr F. Martin, then Worshipful Master of United Service Lodge, to encourage an annual golf competition among its members. The first tournament took place at Dulwich Golf Club on 1 June 1921, with Bro E. Little becoming its inaugural winner.
Over the following 90 years, the Martin Cup became a cherished Lodge tradition, with 77 winners' shields recording its golfing history. The final competition was held in 2011 at Badgemore Park Golf Club, Henley-on-Thames.
Recognised by Metropolitan Grand Lodge as London's Premier Golf Lodge, the Lodge of St James is honoured to give this remarkable trophy a new home and continue its legacy.
The Cup will retain its historic name, United Service Lodge 1361 Martin Cup, and will be awarded at the Lodge of St James Golf Day from 2027.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the brethren of United Service Lodge No. 1361 for their generous gift and look forward to bringing this distinguished Masonic golfing tradition back to life.

Three Generations involved in a special occasion
Superb and emotional ceremony on our 12th of May meeting. We had grandpa initiating his grandson and his dad looking after him as JD. It was indeed VERY EMOTIONAL, which followed up with an exquisite festive board at the Kennel Club.
Preserving a Historic Tradition of Excellence
Masonry is founded on the ancient principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth. As a collective of distinguished individuals, we are committed to the pursuit of wisdom and the betterment of our character. Our temple serves as a sacred space for the cultivation of profound fraternity and the preservation of timeless ethical values.
Rooted in Masonic values and open to the modern world, St James offers a welcoming space for men to learn, connect, and support one another.
Lodges meet throughout the year, with social events providing an occasion for members new and old to come together and network.
Members are encouraged to visit other lodges under UGLE. Visiting gives members the opportunity to meet and make connections with people they would not normally have the chance to meet, knowing they share the same values.
